Main areas of diversity management

At KIT, we see aspects of diversity as added value. In order to do justice to the complexity of intersectionality, we take a holistic approach to diversity, which is also addressed in the KIT 2025 Strategy. The target is to promote the skills of all employees in the best possible way, prevent structural disadvantage and thus create the best possible conditions and support for research and teaching.

With its Diversity Statement published in May 2022, KIT created the basis for contemporary diversity management, which identifies increasing the performance potential and the opportunity to develop the diverse perspectives and abilities of all employees as a target.

Three main areas of focus are addressed:

  • Enabling individual life plans / considering life situations
  • Creating fair framework conditions
  • Developing diversity competences

Enable individual life plans/considering life situations

We are aware that every employee has different life plans, which are derived from the individual phases of life, among other things. This is why we offer our employees a variety of options that are geared towards their individual needs. For example, we promote the compatibility of work and family life through flexible working time models, a comprehensive range of childcare services and advice on the topic of work and care, or support employees through an active company healthcare system.

Creating fair framework conditions

We create reliable framework conditions for all employees, regardless of their personal background, and ensure that all employees are aware of them. Guidelines, processes and structures are designed to be fair, transparent and comprehensible, as are the formal decision-making, communication and information channels. Regulations and a commitment to fair working conditions can be found in the Code of Conduct, the voluntary commitment "Good Work at KIT" and the KIT 2025 Strategy, among others. There is a comprehensive personnel development concept and extensive welcome and integration offers for international scientists and students.
